gotta get the death count down
so many of the deaths in this country are occurring in the 85+ age demographic (a separate conversation could be had about the importance of artificially keeping these folks going, so many at that age are dying because they have legal measures in place that prevent invasive treatment of any kind. remember that pneumonia has been called the old mans best friend for centuries)
On the plus side - there aren't that many 85+ year old's in the whole country. Under a million. Protecting/immunizing those folks both directly and by getting LTC and other healthcare workers setup won't take that long (like a few months)
Combine that w coming out of winter and in my mind it's a whole new ball game by march.
After that, the numbers won't really matter. Get it, or don't' get it. If you are statistically likely to not suffer any harmful effects from C19, job done. At that point bring back the old normal as soon as possible. Every day of living like this becomes mentally harder for so many people (not to mention financially)
I do wish that we had implemented a short shut down over christmas. 2 weeks with a hard reopening date that coincides w christmas school closures. Probably would do a lot of good, and lots of small business shuts down then anyways.
EDIT found something - this is the info I referenced above
