Did you not read the article? She ran as an independent write-in after the Republicans replaced her as a senator candidate. She then took his place after being elected. She's been under fire from conservative Republicans the entire time, but she's the one the people of Alaska want. And not the GOP has basically turned into a Trump cult so why should she stay?
She was elected as an independent so I imagine if she left the party she'd probably be elected as an independent again.
This entire interview was about "enacting change" in the party. They have a chance now to distance themselves from him, so we'll see where that goes.
