I'm also in the same boat riding on some Pirelli winter's, still grips like hell and the over all condition of the tires seems to be okay. Tread is about 8 years old and stored in the garage, away from the elements.
I bought a set of 215/55/17 Michelin Snow's for future replacement about 710 bucks and got like $70 in Canadian Tire money back from it.
