If there's one thing I can add is to make sure you spend money on quality (cut & clarity) over quantity (size).
I've seen some friend's rings where they're 1-1.5 carats but the quality is garbage. You can tell they just want a big rock on their finger to show off. Things like lack of sparkle or being able to visually see the inclusions on the diamond are a big yikes for me.
