VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A serious crash involving an unmarked Vancouver Police SUV and a bus at 41st Avenue between Knight Street and Dumfries Street sent two officers to the hospital Friday night.
At around 11:00 p.m., officers from the Emergency Response Section were called to reports of a man with a gun in a home in the area of Rupert Street and East 29th Avenue.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, the officers were driving to the scene with their sirens and lights on, and that’s when the police vehicle collided with the bus head-on, closing the area down for several hours.
Both officers had to be extracted from the car by firefighters and were rushed to hospital with serious leg injuries.
VPD say the officers are both undergoing treatment for broken legs.
The driver of the bus was also taken to hospital, his injuries are not life-threatening.
According to BC Emergency Health Services, a total of six people were taken to the hospital. Two are in critical condition and four others are in stable condition.
Video circulating online following the crash shows a large police presence closing off the crash site, with dozens of police officers and first responders descending on the area.
