Let him know how much him passing away or ending up in a hospital would affect you and the family. If grandchildren are in the picture, let him know how much they would miss him. If he is one of those really grumpy old farts, there's really nothing you can do. Guys like him will regret it in the end, but still not show it on the outside. What's worse than a grumpy old man? An asian grumpy old man.
