While that might be true for a smaller country, for one that is as large and has as large a population as the US, opening up the US-Canada border wouldn't meaningfully change the course of their COVID situation all that much. Cali on its own has a higher population than all of Canada. Texas and Florida, the next 2 most populous states, have a combined population that is also larger than Canada's. Last I checked, inter US travel has pretty much been going on as if COVID isn't there. I have friends in Cali, WA, and OR travelling to adjacent states, two have independently travelled to Puerto Rico, two in NYC is going out and having get together with friends like it is normal again.
Most importantly, Canada has lower case numbers and higher vaccination rates than the US. In essence, we're a safer place than the US is. It makes no sense that the US doesn't re-open its land borders to welcome fully vaccinated Canadians when our border is open to fully vaccinated Americans.
