Water in Vancouver is really soft, so there's no need to filter it, unless it's something you absolutely want to do like to filter out chlorine and stuff, then go for it.

Here in Toronto, the water is pretty hard and it varies in every neighbourhood. I moved out to Mississauga a while ago and there' a huge difference in hardness and that depends on where your water source comes from. Definitely need a water softener here. You guys have it good.
