Ya I wasn't impressed with him for not following advise.
The guy at IB Motors told him it's better to have the engine pulled and rebuilt, as opposed to buying a new used engine. He said he looked around and could only find a used engine for $8K.
The work hasn't started yet, so I told him at the very least call around and see your other options with the shops suggested here.
Stubborn bastard said he'll now call around and get some second opinion, why the fuck would that not have been his first course of action, only god knows
