Have you tried using visual/physical models to explain how much space a car commands and how it moves?
I've found that a lot of times bad drivers or inconfident parkers, is because they don't have a good sense of spatial awareness and a good sense of how the vehicle actually interacts in a 3D plane, if that makes sense?

Grab a Maisto 1/24 or heck even some hotwheels if desperate or whatever and lay out some scenarios. Have them handle the model in different scenarios and see if that could help them understand movement/turning radius etc etc.
