I would argue that the statistic which somewhat supports how households can afford our skyrocketing housing costs, particularly for ground-oriented homes, is median household after-tax income for households with children:

~$105K after tax in 2019. (For the record, our household was above the median in 2019).
As the results of the 2021 census are gradually released over the coming months, we will see increases to this figure based on elder millennials and gen-Xers moving into senior leadership roles abandoned by baby boomers over the past 3 years.
