Looking at specs now, and the big question for me is -- how loud (ie. in dB rating) is loud? I only know 78 dB is whisper quiet for a car exhaust, but I can't imagine it being the same when it is an AC unit humming 5' away from me.

I would lower your expectations on how portable these are. In my experience it would be a huge pain in the ass to be frequently moving it from one room to another, given its weight as well as the need to setup the exhaust hose every time.
