Little things like that really annoy me, especially when people have been in the business and are "experienced". There should be no reason to design a washroom like that.
The biggest thing I've learned while renovating my house is to assume every trade doesn't know shit all and make them explain to you what they're doing. It doesn't matter if they've been in the business for 10 years, if they've been doing it wrong for 10 years, that doesn't help you.
