I believe that each time you get an over the air update, it would wipe out any changes made.
Tesla does offer subscription services already. The most common one is the Premium Connectivity. This offers live traffic alerts on your nav screen as well as an lte connection so you can stream music, youtube, netflix and other services. They also offer a subscription service to Full Self Driving.
