This applies to most classic Ducati up until about 2012/2013 or so when Audi bought Ducati SpA. The quality has improved a lot and the maintenance intervals are no longer as demanding as they used to be (you can stretch them out a lot more.)
I've owned my fair share of Italian nonsense to have come to learn and accept they have their quirks and sometimes, it can be a total piece of shit design/engineering and you can't help but wonder "WTF were they thinking?"

But despite all the trouble, it brings a smile to your face. I miss every piece of Italian machinery I once owned, from Alfa Romeos to Vespas. There is a real charm about Italian crap.
