The crime was always pretty bad, and is part of why I left Canada 15 years ago. But that's home and auto crime, she's talking about random stabbings and shit. Is it significantly worse now?
Edit: Looking at the statistics, some places have gone up quite a bit, while others haven't. Nanaimo was always a shithole but it looks practically unlivable now

Naniamo is an absolute shithole crime wise. I’m not sure actual stats, but perception wise I hear more about violent incidents there than anywhere else other than Vancouver or Surrey, but they at least have exponentially larger populations to make it make a little more sense.
Crime is a function of an angry society. Inequality is probably the biggest contributor to an angry society, yet the “tough on crime” folks never want to acknowledge that.
You aren’t scaring people into being good. It’s the same concept as religion and we’ve seen how well that is keeping people caring and empathetic in the good old U S of A.
It’s all doom and gloom here and it’s only going to get worse until people are actually given a hand out of poverty and desperation instead of just talking about it like the liberals do, or saying fuck it like the cons do. Not to mention the goalposts for happiness and success are fucked now due to social media and regular media alike.
