The crime was always pretty bad, and is part of why I left Canada 15 years ago. But that's home and auto crime, she's talking about random stabbings and shit. Is it significantly worse now?
Edit: Looking at the statistics, some places have gone up quite a bit, while others haven't. Nanaimo was always a shithole but it looks practically unlivable now

It’s way worse than it’s ever been. Downtown is a shit show.
Both my wife’s company and another friends company that took up two floors of an office tower moved out of downtown in the last year due to crime and just random shit like showing up to your office tower and their being shit and needles everywhere.
Before they moved it was a frequent occurrence to have homeless people shove in past people leaving or entering the building to get up to who knows what inside. One building was at homer and pender the other closer to Howe and Robson.
When everyday there’s a story about a violent random attack and how the person is taken in and then released a few hours later, it’s not really just the media playing it up. It’s happening multiple times a day
