Going for 2 was the right call there, people are just reacting to the result rather than the call.
The game was decided on Jacobs coming inches short, and the Raiders getting a stop when they could barely stop them before. They needed two things to happen, one of which was very unlikely, and got 1/2 of them (the less likely one at that!).
Alternatively, it would have been decided on hitting the 1 point conversion AND getting that stop AND winning the coin toss AND scoring another FG (which as we saw, they couldn't do it) or TD (less likely) AND stopping Mahomes again if FG, when they could barely do it in the last 3 quarters, or lose the coin toss and hope to stop him (highly unlikely but possible).
It was 100% the right call. As a Ravens fan, I am all too familiar with people reacting to good coaching based on failed results by the players. A big part of any game plan against Mahomes or Rodgers and those guys is to keep them to as few possessions as possible. Overtime gives them an extra posession or more. Even worse if they win the coin toss!
I was really looking forward to this game, and it was really good up until that bad RTP call. After that the refs decided they better favor the Chiefs on every call to be able to make it out of there alive, so that's what happened. Imagine a defensive holding call on a field goal try? Somehow everything goes the Chiefs way, even when they're not playing as well as they can.
