Whats a more extended period of time? a whole season? Of course i believe that if money was motivator i can raise my level of play. But how would you ever know? The only thing that comes close is when i was playing Beer League hockey and i would stop drinking, and eat properly when playoffs rolled around so i would be in "tip top" shape. Or wayyy back when i had a bet with my friends to see who could get the most ripped for $500. After 6 months i was in the best shape of my life and won the bet. So yes i believe money motivates alot of people.
But u dont need me to tell you that, u watched alot of hockey to know that alot of players do this. U even said in ur original post that ur surprised at how often it happens.
