What I mentioned still stands.
She saw that he sent it to her and saw the confirmation from his phone. It doesn't mean the bank pulled it out of her account because it had yet to be deposited into her account. Because of the delay it takes banks (other than RBC/TD) to process e-transfers, he probably went ahead and canceled it when he got back in the car.
I feel e-transfer is still safer than cash as long as the seller banks with RBC/TD and that you have autodeposit set up.
