I've been with my wife for 22 years (Married for 14), literally our entire adult lives, since before either of us had any real money and even started our current careers. We basically built our entire future together from the ground up, so none of these conversations/considerations about "earning potential" or "equal earning" were ever a thing. As it turned out I now make more than twice her salary, but it doesn't bother me that she hasn't caught up with me. There was a time there I was going to school and not working while she was working and footing the bill for all of our dates etc.
I don't really care what she's earning, as long as she is happy doing what she is doing.
