You know what's scarier? My Aunt had (now in my possession) two brand new unopened Beta Max players. She had so many tapes. She was told Beta would become extinct (it did) and wanted to make sure she had one in case the one she had died. Receipt taped to the box. I should donate them to the Smithsonian, gulolol.
On second thought, I think one was opened to check the contents. Anyway..............
Why would anyone buy anything that has the word "beta" in the name?
