Well yea, why would Loblaws and companies like that ever lower prices once people become accustomed to their new reality, regardless of what their costs are

The only real thing that keeps companies like that in check are that they are publicly traded and their profits are visible to all. Although, in North American society people seem to be largely pushovers or indifferent to stuff like that.
