My though is this: If the houses in your neighbourhood also have an elevator, then yes you should have one. For example, I live on a standard lot in East Van, and having an elevator would be ridiculous. Meanwhile my cousin lives in North Van, and he has an elevator, like all the other houses in his area ($6M+, amazing view, big lots, etc.).
