^This is basically it. It's more for the rounded experience than actually expecting him to become some star Soccer player or musician.
Like I come from a pretty Soccer nut family. Dad played semi-pro in Europe in his 20's, then played beer league over here until about 15 years ago when he sustained some major back injuries at work. Now he referees on weekends.
My sister played BC premier league until her late teens, when she suffered a knee injury that took her out. After that she coached at TSS in Richmond for a number of years (she coached some of the girls on team Canada that won olympic gold in Tokyo). She's done with all that now though.
I played BC Premier League up until high school, then really didn't care for it anymore and stopped. I did some refereeing as well, was at what is now considered grade 7 (Refereeing over 60's games when I was 18 lol)
I can already see from the way my kid is playing, that he doesn't have that sort of inherent skill to go far in Soccer though (you can already start seeing who the star players are going to be at this age) lol. But he doesn't mind doing it for now so we'll keep him going..
