The latest gen hybrid version is pretty terrific IMO - I'm not a fan of the CVT equipped one (I told my wife a part of me died each time I floored it) but the hybrid is peppy, quiet, and is all the good stuff that Honda is about. It's not sporty but it's just lovely to drive and be in.
I find the Rav4 to be ugly, a bit crude, and cheap looking both inside and out so I'd never be able to convince myself to own one but the CR-V Hybrid is a winner in my books.
