Other than raw driver skill which I think has a small but not insignificant part in speed, another big reason you have to remember is that the car is built around Max and his driving style. Because Max is the no. 1 driver, if both drivers have conflicting inputs during development, the whole team will take Maxs needs amd wants everytime. That is just the unfortunate truth for Checo. You can only do so much with setup, but the car from the ground up is designed to perform at its peak when Max is behind the wheel.

I just saw a clip on IG with Albon talking about Max as a team mate, he said as the season goes on he wants the car tighter and tighter and tighter (albon compared this to gaming with a mouse and cranking the sensitivity up to the max where a slight flinch sends the cursor across the screen)
He said as a driver who drove the “same” car, he found that in having that tight of a front end, it gets to the point where you aren’t in that float state or whatever you call it where you’re acting on instinct instead of thinking, he said it became increasingly hard to not think about each turn, which, as a result, usually ends up in crashing or at the very least, getting out of position and overtaken
