they were hard to get. they were very limited (less than 7k worldwide). The plan was to only make about half that but BMW relented and made more.
There were 220 in Canada.
You could do up a fully built 135i for a whole lot less money, and even go as far as building a body clone - but that's not really what this car is.
Historical prices on them have ranged from over MSRP new, to big $ collector grade cars. They've never really traded for less than original MSRP.
Type of car that's tough for some gearhead $$$ brains to accept - i could have bought a much newer M2 comp for the same money. I like these types of cars though (my car taste is all pretty unique low production stuff). I love when big OEM's do small special runs.
Go watch some historical reviews. These were universally loved when new. I've been rewatching those reviews for the past 13 years.
Not sure if it's a forever car - i don't really have room for more of those, but it's special and I'm going to give it a good long chance to make it's case to stay in the garage.
