The only real downside to the mk8 that I don't recall in my mk7 sportwagen is the overall cheapening of materials and build quality. They were able to shave some weight off the mk8 vs the mk7 but the rattles and cheapy plastics is noticeable vs the mk7.

Its almost 2000kms now and there are 3 distinct rattles, one on each of the front door and one in the dash close to the glove box or screen... the dash one doesn't happen all the time, but the door ones are bad in this heat. Also when the body twists, there is some weirdo creaking noise too.

Coming from a Toyota product, I forgot this is pretty norm for other automakers. my 14 year old ES is dead silent inside. This thing rattles like a Playskool kids toy
So in the M3, I put my sunglasses on the little cubby on the left under the steering wheel. BMW likes having cubbies there as all 3 BMWs has had a cubby there. One day when I was driving the M3 there was maddening rattle. It bothered me for most of the drive, then I figured out it was actually my sunglasses rattling.

The door pockets of the M3 are also of a plastic that squeaks if you put a plastic water bottle in it. Found that one out the hard way as well
