Kinda his own "fault" when he strategised this without taking into account that the tyres he used since lap 10 were constantly losing weight and this track does not allow any opportunity to pick up rubber pieces after the end of the race.
If he did any of the following, he would still be on the podium:
1) Lift and coast more instead of fighting with Hamilton in the last stint
2) Settle for 2nd early on (so his car would not likely have been scrutinized)
3) Go for a two-stop
Russell did none of these. Horner (of whom I am not a fan) said the strategist is to blame, and in this case, Russell is that strategist trying to push his luck.
Toto Wolff's facial expression at the end of the face kinda gave it away that a disqualification would be on the table.
