Cost will likely be over 100 million all said and done to have never collected a single fire arm before ultimately being abandoned once cons get into power.

Great use of money. Especially for a program most “experts” said was a pipe dream from the beginning.
This was the stupidest waste of money, and regardless of how dumb it becomes nobody on the anti gun side of this debate will ever understand or see it.

The policy was stupid because nobody in this country understands what a gun is. Legally speaking the receiver of a weapon is the legal "gun".

So for the Gov't to say we are going to ban 1000's of Assault style weapons, meant that they were just banning one small component of the what makes a gun.

Everybody who owned one of those weapons would take the stock, trigger, barrel, attachment, etc off the weapon they owned turn in the receiver, and then just go out and buy a legal receiver from another brand and build a gun which basically looked identical.

Here's the thing it is just like construction, politicians are clueless, they dont know a fucking thing about these industries and they are making sweeping idiotic changes to them with no understanding of the repercussions. They waste billions a year on failed initiatives and bullshit campaigns utilizing public servants and most of them end up being abandoned before achieving anything or becoming useful at all.

And that's why Canada is falling behind, our politicians are some of the least knowledgeable people ever.

There's this book called "skin in the game", i read it a while ago, it is absolutely fantastic. There is an awesome part of the book which explains that historically "winners", highly powerful, highly influencial people were risk takers. The basis of the book was that you cant take risk without having "skin in the game", otherwise what risk are you taking. The examples were plentiful, but the most basic example was people like alexander the great, cesar, napoleon, etc. These individuals rose to power by being on the front lines of battle with their fighters during wars.

The issue with government is that politicians and civil servants have basically zero "skin in the game", yeah very rarely someone does something so stupid they get fired, but overwhelmingly things like the SNC debacle, the arrivecan scandle, this north shore water treatment plant disaster, they all get dragged out in the media, and before any reasonable conclusion with actual punishment it is forgotten about, and then it gets swept under the rug and all the civil servants and politicians that gained, profitted, or otherwise fucked it up lose nothing and keep on keeping on.

We need to give them more skin in the game, firing in politics or civil service should be a regular occurrence. I know of companies (and not small ones) that fire 10% of their lowest performing staff every year. Literally december rolls around they do their annual reviews or their evaluations, and they just go around telling the losers to pack their shit up in a cardboard box. No fucking mercy. And you know what that means, every year those employees that are around need to perform better, otherwise the next lowest 10% will be on the chopping block that year, so they all work their asses off.
