Lovely ICBC story to tell since the circle jerk is still going strong
So my wife’s uncle is always wheeling and dealing vehicles, not so much to make profit but he just likes trying new vehicles he’ll keep them for a bit and then sell.
So now there is zero provision to claim a lesser value for the sale of a used vehicle any longer regardless of condition. He recently bought a 2018 hybrid pathfinder and the thing had a blown transmission, he looks into it and it’s $16,000 from Nissan for a new transmission.. so he figures fuck it, going to risk buying this vehicle and try to fix the transmission. In order to claim less than book value on the transfer of a vehicle, you now need a VI to prove this is the case. He knows a bunch of people with garages, shops, etc. but none of them do this type of inspection.
He finally finds a guy, and after the $200 inspection, the guy says he can’t verify the condition of the transmission even though it’s throwing all these CEL codes and this hybrid pathfinder is a known lemon and was part of a huge class action lawsuit in the states. So even after paying for an inspection, he’s forced to pay book value on the transfer..
They also got rid of the gift clause completely, so it’s the same process gifting vehicles to family.
