I wonder if the California reputation is really a narrative created by Republicans and is something that's overcome with some story telling - it wasn't like he was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, his mom worked 3 jobs to support the family.

I agree, he wouldn’t hesitate to go on Fox News or Joe Rogan and take on conservatives. He also wouldn’t shy away from defending progressive issues but would do so in a way that doesn’t alienate swing or independent voters. We’re already seeing him back more moderate policies in California, which, in my opinion, is a strategic move with 2028 in mind. Imagine a Newsom/Gretchen Whitmer ticket, that looks pretty solid to me. Or Newsom/Jeffries if the goal is to appeal to Black voters.
And keep in mind, Trump has two years to do whatever he likes, and most likely he’ll mess things up, because by 2026, the Democrats will likely retake the House, rendering him a lame duck president and putting them in a strong position for 2028 as long as they can find the right person to lead them.
