Lumping Canada into the illegal immigration and drug trafficking into the US along with Mexico is just absurd. According to this CBC article:

Based on figures from the US Customs and Border Protection, illegal entries into US from Canada barely accounts for 1% of the total number of illegal entries into the US from all checkpoints. And we all know which side of the border funnel more drugs into the US. At most, we might funnel more marijuana into the US than Mexico does.
Some critics are saying this is a standard Trump pre-negotiation tactic -- present some sort of absurd terms (ie. the 25% tariffs) before the actual negotiations take place, so that when the time comes for the real negotiations, the US can still get away with presenting a lob-sided contract that greatly benefits the US at Canada/Mexico's expense because it would still be more enticing than the 25% tariffs.
But obviously, this is just straight up negotiating in bad faith. Of course it is a standard Trump tactic because he is a despicable dick.
