Summers are pretty dicey in cold weather - the compound hardens and the car loses grip quicker around turns (even at cul de sacs). Plus the tires get worn out faster and I think ICBC might not cover you in an accident.
I went through a winter on summers in the past when I was younger - I would not do that again.
