Maybe I do feel "a little" sorry that people that commute from Surrey dont get a highway into DT van, but there are a TON of people between Surrey and Vancouver who aren't required to have a ridiculous commute and it's honestly not that bad if you know which hot spots to avoid.
It's a trade-off that exists in every city, either pay the prices to live close to downtown, or pay with your time commuting... or don't work DT. An extra 5km of congested highway isn't going to make much of a difference for a commuter, but that extra 5km of livable city makes a huge difference for all the people in between.
