It's a little more than just really strong black tea because any reputable HK tea cafe should be mixing at least 3 different blends of tea leafs, and using a LOT of it to brew the tea. The mixing and the sheer amount of tea leafs being used to brew isn't something I can practically do on my own, so I continue to prefer the cafe-made stuff instead of DIY.
But the tea blend is more important when you are making HK milk tea. For HK lemon iced tea, the taste is somehow much easier to replicate on our own with just strong tea.
