Some of us have made the comment that the US can't be trusted, and I both agree and disagree with the sentiment. On one hand, US foreign policy has always been steadfast on one and only one thing -- US interest above everything else, and right now, the sentiment still holds true before and after the tariffs are postponed. So in that sense, I agree that the US cannot be trusted.
On the other hand, I also feel it is important to make the distinction that a better statement should be -- the current US under the direction of the Trump administration cannot be trusted. This Orange bastard is ready and willing to throw a long time partner and ally under the bus on a whim if he so feels like it. There is no reason or logic behind his decisions -- Trump does not make sound decisions based on facts on the ground, nor events in reality. He lives in his own little world, and his reality is whatever he believes in.
We have certainly had our quarrels with the US throughout the years, but overall, I'd say the US have generally been a reliable enough partner that we can count and rely on. In particular, I think it is wrong to consider Americans to be our enemy -- they are just not that, at least not 1/2 of the American population.
In 4 years' time when the next US presidential election comes, I hope we can have a better relationship with our southern neighbour. I wouldn't even mind if Felon 47 just sudden croaks, and let Vance step onto the plate.
