Playing a little devil's advocate here -- to the Liberals, it doesn't really matter whether they think Trump's plans to annex Canada as the 51st state is real or not. What matters is -- Trump's repeated rhetoric is giving them the fuel and ammunition to claw back support from Canadian voters, and build the consensus required to form a coalition against the Trump USA. So their only sensible course of action is to further emphasize the soverignty threat, both domestically and to the international audience.
I wouldn't be so confident that the Mark Carney Liberals is on their way to a victory just yet. The race is close, and until more polls consistently show a clear tilt in favour of the Liberals, I am not going to believe the Liberals has a good chance of winning. And even then, we won't know until the ballots are all counted.
