The last dance
One of the most hyped film which I've been wanting to review.
The director has always been a rom com movies, super famous as the last few years, he has consistently made box office hits esp with also Dayo Wong.
The last dance is actually a protected industry / skill that is unique to Hong Kong. When my grandma passed away in HK during COVID, I was really crazy to be in all the locations where they did all the filming and seeing how it went thru the movie.
Script & Acting - eveyrone had a very solid role with an extremely good cast. Mostly based on a good script and a cross generational tension between old versus the new. There was no side story line which was useless.
Cutting of unions - becasue of great editing, it helped with the pacing of the movie. There were literally no wastage of a story here. At the end, I can see why people (in theatre) sat at the theatres despite the lights came back on and people still sat there with some tears.
It's a very unique topic that has never been told or acted out before - this was also the reason why Dayo did this as it was a great way give it tribute in as it's unique in HK.
Really tough ending when it all came together. Balance it between a 'comedy' / sad movie but Michael Hui Koon Man (82 in the movie) finally came back out from acting to act a role which is not typical of him for the last 50 years (comedian / slap stick 80s character).
I felt uplifted in the movie. I do wish my dad / mom or any inlaws woudl watch this to really understand the fact they have to let go of their past (esp HK asian fail culture) and breaking down of social barriers.
Must watch movie in 2024.
