Optics just aren't good with him, at the same time he's a successful business owner, to own a few vacation properties (1 in Squamish, 1 in Tofino) isn't exactly outlandish, but still, bad optics.

Yes optics aren't good but I think this kind of gotcha politics is silly though - he's a 60 year old successful businessman, it'd be a scandal if he didn't have a lot of money. From the follow up I've seen it sounds like he only has a $2.4M condo + $2.85M Tofino cabin + 1/4 $5.6M Squamish cabin = $6.65M
That's an entirely reasonable amount of real estate to own for personal use considering his age and success - shit, my house is worth nearly $3m and I rent out a suite - does that make me unqualified to be a housing minister?
He has definitely gotten off to a rough start as housing minister - at least his first week - but few actually understand the problem as well as he does or have lived experience with what works and what doesn't on the housing market. He might still get shuffled out though b/c solving housing isn't a 1 or 2 year problem, it's a decades problem and the market is offering really bad conditions for building housing right now (high rates, high costs, dropping prices).
