Combinations for several plate types will run out at various times in the upcoming months and years. The number of digits on the plates will not change; ICBC is updating plate types with new six-digit patterns. Generally, each plate type corresponds to a vehicle type. All license plates use a combination of six characters, and each plate type has a unique pattern and combination. ICBC has approximately 40 different license plate types. We don’t expect these changes will impact your operations, however, we want you to be aware that if you see new configurations, they are legitimate licence plates issued by ICBC. Some new configurations starting this summer New patterns will be made available when the current pattern runs out on that specific plate type. The first new pattern to be released will be the Parks - Porteau Cove configuration, which you’ll see starting in summer 2025. The passenger plate type, which is the most used, will be moved to a new pattern starting in approximately August 2025.
