street food, shopping, night life go to Osaka (or Kobe which is much smaller but kind of cooler)
sight seeing, traditional stuff, go to Kyoto
If you go to Kyoto I have a recommendation for a nice relaxing place that is popular with domestic tourists, but at least when I went, wasn't flooded by the international tourists yet. I hear Kyoto is kind of a nightmare post covid though, so maybe they got hit too
