Better home security, no one carries cash anymore let alone leaving large amounts at home. Valuable jewelry is not as fashionable, personal electronics have anti-theft devices and are password locked to users.

On the other hand what's the rate of shoplifting and theft from retail stores compared to 20 years ago?
