Hobz is gonna have a laugh this. Wife's cousin moved to Germany for school, and has stayed there since. We've visited them twice, once when they lived in Halle, outskirts of Leipzig, and once where they are now in Aachen. Yes they are full Shanghainese, but they do not act like it, and yes they speak German, much better than their English.

It's the worst when you are good friends with each side BEFORE they started dating. There's a couple in my friend groups that are like that, the girl and guy from separate groups, but there was some crossovers here and there and everyone knew everyone.
One side would complain about something in the relationship and whether you agree with it or not, it still sucks.
The couple are happily married now and have two kids, but damn was it rough for a few years stuck between them
