I don't have it in front of me but I believe that carbon emissions in China actually went down this year (or last?) as their efforts at pushing EVs, switching to solar/wind/hydro etc are actually overcoming their thirst for energy even as they keep growing. This is a bit of a monumental achievement - basically the country that could do the most harm to the climate has turned the corner.
tl;dr China isn't going to need any extra oil from us so that pipeline is a pipe dream.
In related reading Bill Gates wrote a detailed article on the state of climate change - in it he says we're turning the corner on climate change as well - going green mostly doesn't cost extra anymore so new energy will be green. He got a lot of shit for it but I don't see anything in his writeup that was entirely off base, I think he's mostly right - it's just that we still need to see things through b/c the past is still affecting the future.
