On a side note, Merida is awesome and was a wicked drive out there from Playa Del Carmen, very much recommend that city. I plan to work remotely there for a month or so later this year.

Agree, Merida is very nice and about as safe as you can be in Mexico. Also check out Campeche nearby if you haven't already
