My uncle lives in Merida and his buddy who's an ex SAS was telling me that Merida is like The Continental in John Wick, crime doesn't happen there and it's ridiculously safe, the Mexican government essentially mandates it.
It certainly felt like it, cops everywhere, felt VERY safe.
