Okay so here's where I landed with the piano.
YES this was a total scam, lol. I never actually contacted them but when I searched for the ad again, I came across multiple identical ads posted under different accounts, all signed up to Meta within a year or so.

I ended up getting a used Alesis Recital Pro for $400 including bench and stand. It gives my wife the weighted hammer keys, gives my son something to learn on, and the price was reasonable.
I feel like Alesis is a Hyundai or Kia, while Casio or Yamaha are BMW and Mercedes. But it meets our needs!
