I don't usually leave impressions on my current cars, but whatever
The Lezbaru feels like a lifted fastback sedan with rallycross vibes - it's quick, handles surprisingly well, and comfortable to drive in. Not a standout in any one area, but solid in things that matter for an everyday vehicle.
Things I like:
- There's plenty of power and instant torque for everyday driving
- Steering feels more direct and weighted than I expected. It's similar to the Model 3/Y but with a bit more resistance, and not vague or boosted like newer BMWs or EVs.
- Build quality is good - solid parts are rigid and I don't have any creaks or rattles inside the cabin. Touch points are padded and consistent for the segment. Seats are supportive and comfortable but also a bit snug.
- I like the mix of physical buttons and software controls - I much prefer it over a full software setup like in a Model Y.
- I'm averaging roughly 14–15 kWh/100 km for efficiency which seems comparable to the Model Y AWD. It's much better than my last car that averaged 25 kWh/100km (though to be fair it was a large PHEV)
Things I'm lukewarm about
:
- Charging is slower than my past PHEVs and EVs. I charge primarily using level 1 and get about 600-950W/hr. Everything else I've had consistently hovered around 1.1-1.2kW using the same charging cable. But because I am getting better efficiency out of this vehicle, I can still largely recoup the same range every hour.
- The phone app supports digital car key, but I can't get it to work unless I have the app running in the foreground to get a response. Sometimes it continues to work when I have it running in the background, but the behaviour is inconsistent enough that I just carry my car key with me. I wish it was more reliable like Tesla's, or change the implementation to an Apple Wallet key like how BMW does it.
- My infotainment has a bug where calls randomly cut off and I can no longer hear the other person (they can still hear me). It’s a known issue with no ETA for a fix. Newer units don’t have this problem since they ship with a newer software version, but that update isn’t available via OTA for older units like mine.
